We returned home from a holiday in Noosa today to find some action had finally taken place on our block! We had received a call from our slab supervisor on 14 April advising the site scraping would be done that day, and it looks like the sewer pipes have also been laid. Apparently our slab is booked for May 6th so we are now counting down until then.
Apparently stalking the block does not make construction start any faster... In the mean time, I thought I would start thinking about furnishing/styling the house when it finally is built. Most of the furniture/ art we already own, with a few new purchases, like the Matt Blatt bar stools and the Urban Road Horses 1 and Unicorn 1 print. Living room: Kids rooms: Master:
After 7 long months, we are finally on the construction list! Work should start in the next 20 working days! So excited!!
We had our electrical appointment this morning, and came in right on budget. I left battens in the bedrooms as I haven't found appropriate pendants yet, however, we put downlights through most of the hallways and living areas. We selected Tadao pendants for over the kitchen bench and Sentinel Square Up/Down wall mounts for the facade. We added 6 data points throughout the house and TV brackets in the living and home theatre. We upgraded the air conditioning to the Actron ESP and also upgraded to Saturn power points on the kitchen island and splash back, including the cooker switch.
We had long wait for our colour selections appointment so we changed our minds quite a few times. In the end, we decided that a natural, light, coastal look would suit the location of our block. The selections/upgrades we chose at our appointment in January 2016 were:
After going through 3 homes in as many years, we decided that perhaps building was the way to go to get the space our boisterous children require. In September 2015 we purchased a 600m2 block in beautiful Port Stephens. We toyed with the idea of engaging a private architect but decided that a volume builder might be easier given it is our first time building. We visited many display homes before falling for the McDonald Jones Seaside Retreat display. We really liked that the Master was separated from the kids rooms but close enough that the kids wouldn't feel alone at night. . We also liked that the living space was slightly separated from the kitchen/dining but also still connected. We loved that the living spaces opened to our north facing backyard so we can keep an eye on the kids while they are playing. And I loved the HUGE island bench.
